Registration and entries must all be completed using the same method (i.e. you must enter all your categories online OR via paper/mail).

GENERAL HOMECRAFT RULES:

All work must be that of the exhibitor. For virtual entries, all photos of entries must be originals taken by the Exhibitor. A maximum of one entry photo per section will be accepted.
All exhibitors must be amateurs.
All exhibits must not have been previously shown at the Brooklin Spring Fair and will not be judged as a result.
No person shall enter more than one article per section.
Any questions pertaining to specific exhibits should be directed to the Homecraft chairperson; Kristin Slute, homecraft@brooklinspringfair.com
Items will be judged in accordance with the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Judging Standards book or the Ontario Horticultural Judging Standards book. Virtual entries and physical entries will be judged equally.
Items entered will be judged at the Judge’s discretion based on merit and Judges are not obligated to award a 1st prize in any class. All judges’ decisions are final.
Some Classes will be on physical display this year and some classes will be displayed virtually.
The Society will not be responsible for any loss or postal disruptions in the delivery of the entries.
All prize money is donated by the Brooklin Spring Fair Agricultural Society unless otherwise stated.

HOW TO ENTER AND ENTRY DEADLINES: Exhibitor Tags will be mailed to Exhibitors compliments of the Brooklin Spring Fair if received by the deadlines outlined below. If you require assistance with our online entry system, please contact us at homecraft@brooklinspringfair.com

To enter in the Homecraft competition online, browse to your desired category, click the Registration button, and follow the steps in AssistExpo.
All online entry forms must be received through the online entry platform by midnight Sunday May 15, 2022.
1. IMPORTANT: Any exhibits for virtual classes MUST be submitted at the same time as you submit your entry form. You can add your categories to the "cart" but do not check out until such time as you have uploaded all photos of your entries.

All mailed entry forms must be postmarked no later than Friday May 6, 2022. Mailed entry forms must include the Exhibitor Name and Category to be entered.
There will be a $5 Administration Fee for entries received beyond Sunday May 15, 2022. The Exhibitor will receive the exhibitor tags when the in-person exhibits are delivered to the fair. No entries will be received beyond May 31, 2022, at midnight.
Exhibits are to be delivered to the Luther Vipond Arena (67 Winchester Rd. E.) either on Wednesday June 1, 7:30PM – 8:30PM and/or Thursday June 2, 8:00AM – 11:00AM. The Arena doors will be closed and locked at 11:00AM sharp.
Entry tags must be affixed to the article before drop-off. The tag must be folded to conceal the Exhibitor’s Name.

Quilts and Quilting

Quilts and Quilting (IN PERSON)

General Rules:

Each fabric sample must be at least 5.1 x 7.6 cm (2 x 3“) and attached to the entry tag.
No person may enter more than one article in any one section
All articles must be hand quilted, unless otherwise stated, clean and odour free.
Entries must be solely made and quilted by the exhibitor.
No pre-printed quilts unless otherwise stated.

Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Handmade Quilt Competition

OAAS Competition Rules:

Quilts must be solely made and quilted by an individual and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Fair to be eligible for this competition.
Quilts to be measured on the perimeter. Total perimeter measurement to be a minimum of 324 inches or 823 cm. Note the quilt can be square, rectangular etc. ALL 4 sides must be measured to determine the perimeter measurement.
Must have 3 layers (top, batting and back) and be quilted through all layers. Not mounted on a frame.
Quilt may have a sleeve attached to the back for the purpose of hanging the quilt.
Quilts must be hand quilted, clean and odour free.
Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels (Oct. 2022). A Provincial Grand Champion Quilt will be selected at the Annual Convention of the OAAS (Feb. 2023).
The winning OAAS Champion Handmade Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future District and/or Convention OAAS competition.
The winner’s name will be displayed on a sign provided by the OAAS.
Upon making entry into the OAAS Quilt competition, the exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the competition.
It is the quilter’s responsibility to give credit to the original designer of their quilt pattern based on copyright rules.

Knitting General Rules:

Wool samples of at least 10.2 cm (4") long or fabric samples of 5.1x7.5 cm (2 x 3") must be attached to the entry tag.
All items are to be hand knit or crocheted, unless otherwise stated, clean and odour free.
Articles may have been worn, but must be cleaned before exhibited.
No person may enter more than one article in any one section.
All afghans must be a minimum of 101.6x152.4 cm (40 x 60 inches).
Baby afghans must be a minimum of 61.0x91.4 cm (24 x 36 inches).

Community Service Projects

Materials needed for Laundry Bad:

Cotton fabric, two pieces 45.7x61.0 cm (18 x 24")
Cord, 2 pieces measuring 101.6 cm (40") in length

Directions

With right sides of fabric facing, using a 0.6 cm (1/4") seam allowance, stitch along the bottom edge, and the 2 long sides, stopping 3.8 cm (1 1/2") from the top from edge.
Fold over the top edge by 1.9 cm (3/4"). Then fold over again.
Stitch along the top edge to secure the folded edge.
Turn the laundry bag out the right way.
Thread the cord through the left side through the channel and around the opening of the bag, exiting from the left side.
Repeat on the right side. Tie the ends of the cord together.
Creativity permitted.

Community Service Project:

Fleece Lap Blanket—by individual or group (group must be named)

Required:

Two pieces of fleece (minimum width 88.9 cm (35") and minimum length 101.6 cm. (40"), Creativity permitted.

Directions:

With right sides together, sew a 1.3 cm (1/2 ") seam along the long sides of the blanket. Leave top and bottom edges open.
Turn blanket right side out, and lay flat.
Place a strip of masking tape across the width of the blanket 15.24 cm (6") from the top and bottom edges to form fringe. Make sure to cut both layers of fleece.
Carefully remove tape and knot the top and bottom fringes together to stabilize layers.
If needed, stitch a 25.4-38.1 cm (10-15") square in center of blanket to further stabilize the layers.

OAAS Butter Tarts Competition

Must be 6 full size tarts (no mini or bite size) on a clean sturdy plate (no paper plates) inside of a clear plastic bag.
Tarts must not contain fruit or nuts (ie., no raisins, no pecans)
Entry must be solely made by the person entering competition. (including pastry)

This Class is open to anyone with an intellectual / physical / developmental disability.
There is no age limit for this Class, but please enter under Junior or Senior Division as per age specified.
All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor, except where otherwise stated (hand over hand method).
Only one exhibitor per entry form. An exhibitor may only enter one exhibit per category.

General Class Rules:

Houseplants should be exhibited in their growing pots only. They must have been in the possession and care of the exhibitor for at least three months.
Exhibitors shall enter only one entry per section except in “any other class” where two entries are permitted.
Exhibitors must identify plants on the front of the entry tag where stipulated.
All exhibits must not have been previously shown at the Brooklin Spring Fair.
Purchased flowers (not artificial) may be used only for “designs”.
All floral specimens must be displayed in clear, uncoloured containers.
All vegetable specimens must be displayed on a paper plate, unless otherwise specified.
All horticulture will be judged according to the “Ontario Judging and Exhibition Standards “ for Horticulture and Floral Design, Publication 34/2003.

Winner agrees to compete at District 4 level Annual Meeting in October 2022. The winning tarts from District goes on to the OAAS Annual Convention in Toronto, February 2023, with recipe attached (see our website).
Must be 8 cookies displayed on a clean, sturdy plate (no paper plates) inside of a clear plastic bag.
No nuts
Cookies are to be no larger than 3" (6.75cm) and no smaller than 2" (5cm)

Comeptition Rules:

Create a hand drawn poster to promote your fair.
Name and date of fair must be clearly shown on poster.
Poster size: Minimum – approximately 22cm X 28cm, without border Maximum –approximately 28cm X 44cm, without border.
Each entry must be centered on a CARDSTOCK or BRISTOL BOARD backing exposing approximately a 5.5cm border on all four sides.
Must enter in correct age category.
